When Sita was abducted by Ravana, the king of Lanka, she threw down her jewels and other possessions from his flying chariot, in the hope that the trail would guide Rama and Lakshmana to her. Rama and Lakshmana are depicted in the upper left corner, flying on the back of the monkey-god, Hanuman, in search of Sita. Margins of the folio have been trimmed, hinged to the mount along upper edge, in overall good condition, the pigment colours are strong, faint vertical creases near the centre of the painting with minor associated pigment loss, a few additional spots of pigment loss and some rubbing to pigments, minor scattered areas of discolouration, the reverse with remnants of previous mounting along upper edge with old inventory numbers in pencil, numbered '2' near left edge, as viewed.
